Leitura especial!!
Sou viciado em Dave Matthews Band!! Penso que é uma constatação óbvia.
Nos últimos 13 anos, nos quais esta dependência se fez sentir com maior evidência, foram vários os amigos, e conhecidos, que me perguntaram porque razão é que gosto tanto destes senhores. Foi igual o número de vezes que não consegui exprimir a razão porque me embrenho tão profudamente nesta música...
Pois bem finalmente vou conseguir fazê-lo!! Nikki Van Noy vai fazê-lo por mim... e na perfeição!
"Fifteen years ago, on October 2, 1996, I walked into Boston's Fleet Center, completely unaware that my life was about to change. To be honest, I wasn't all that thrilled to be there in the first place. I had a roommate in college who wouldn't stop talking about Dave Matthews Band (DMB) (...) I wasn't impressed. In fact, I found this Dave Matthews Band to be rather annoying. But I went to the show anyway, (...)
Two minutes into the show and saxophonist LeRoi Moore's horn work on the opening song, "Seek Up", I was mesmerized. Never before had I seen anything like what this band was doing onstage. Dave Matthews was pouring is soul into to the microphone, alternately expressing all the anger, love, and humor I felt at that strange point in my life, which found me just on the cusp-in limbo somewhere between teenagehood and adulthood. Despite the fact that I was in a major metropolitan sports complex with 19.599 other people dancing, screaming, singing and swaying alongside me, there was a bizarre intimacy to it all. I had found something that was mine. Not only did I feel as though I was completely at home (a feeling I rarely felt in those days), but for the first time I found a conduit that seemingly miraculously expressed all of the varied emotions that felt completely unique to myself at that point in life. I wasn't alone after all."

Cá está!! É isto que procuro dizer quando me interrogam sobre o começo desta pancada.
O livro está muito bom. Principalmente por assentar em muitos relatos de fãs.
(O facto de umas das 35 fotos escolhidas, para fazerem parte desta biografia, ter sido tirada aqui pelo Gajo, não faz de mim uma voz imparcial... faz de mim somente um fã super babado!! hehehe)

O concerto da minha vida.
Faz hoje 4 anos que assisti no Pavilhão Atlântico ao concerto da minha vida...
Dave Matthews Band!
Na noite de 25 de Maio de 2007 subiram ao palco Dave Matthews, Carter Beauford, Boyd Tinsley, Stefan Lessard, Butch Taylor, Rashwan Ross e... LeRoi Moore.
Para mim, bem como para a maioria, era a primeira vez que os ia ver ao vivo, e quando falamos de uma banda que tem no palco o seu habitat natural, as expectativas eram elevadas. Pois bem, nada nos poderia ter preparado para aquela noite...
A primeira grande surpresa foi o Atlântico estar cheio! Convém recordar que não houve qualquer tipo de promoção ao concerto, que a maioria das pessoas que eu conhecia nunca tinham sequer ouvido falar de DMB e se a isso juntarmos ser uma banda que muito raramente passava na rádio, foi um feito notável.
Depois o ambiente fantástico que se viveu. Sentia-se a emoção de todos aqueles fãs que esperaram tantos anos para verem ao vivo uma das suas bandas preferidas.
Por outro lado a reacção da banda! Nem eles acreditavam no ambiente ao seu redor... no final da primeira canção o Dave Matthews utiliza a expressão: "Good grief, what a welcome!", e um pouco mais à frente diz: "This is livest audience we've ever seen!".
Pelo meio tivemos direito a ouvir alguns dos maiores sucessos da banda e a um duplo encore. É normal uma banda fazer 2 e 3 encores, mas DMB não é uma banda normal, e há 14 anos que não fazia um duplo encore.
O Concerto durou 3h15!! Sim, 3 horas e 15 minutos de concerto. Tudo foi especial naquela noite... quem esteve lá, mesmo não sendo um fã acérrimo, sabe do que eu estou a falar.
Dessa noite guardo as fotos, os videos, a t-shirt, o álbum editado e a recordação de ter visto tocar, mesmo à minha frente, o saxofonista LeRoi Moore, um dos meus músicos preferidos que viria a falecer um ano depois vítima de um acidente de viação.
Depois deste concerto vi-os tocar mais 3 vezes, em Amesterdão 2009, em Lisboa no Alive 2009 e em Milão 2010... no entanto a noite de 25 de Maio de 2007 será sempre muito especial!

Fez hoje 20 anos que Dave Matthews Band deu o seu primeiro concerto!
Para uma banda que tem no palco o habitat natural, que foi através de concertos ao vivo que criou a sua legião de fãs nos Estados Unidos, esta é sem dúvida uma data importante.
A minha paixão começou por volta de 1998 e daí para cá tornou-se um vício que me leva a cometer algumas loucuras que já descrevi aqui no blog.
Para celebrar esta data fica aqui uma versão da primeira música tocada por eles ao vivo.

The discs are housed in an exclusive C. Taylor Crothers photo book chronicling the entire Dave Matthews Band 2009 tour. The Europe 2009 release is the ultimate Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King companion and comes in a sleeve with room to hold a Big Whiskey Super Deluxe edition.
